The accepted way to overcome this problem is normally a full power off/reboot - easy on a desktop machine, somewhat more problematic if the server is 6000 miles away. However, the latest addition to APW Enclosure Solution's intelligent cabinet management products solves this particular problem very easily, adding a further dimension to APW's server housing's resources. The new range of intelligent Power Distribution Units (IPDU) are addressable, enabling them to be remotely monitored and managed to turn off individual outlets as required. By using this feature, network managers can turn the power to any single server in an enclosure off and on at will. The IPDU also provide sequential power up and down, minimising total inrush current into the enclosure on start-up. The units are vertically mounted in the server housing; they are Web, Telnet and SNMP enabled, fitted with 8, 12 or 16 IEC 320, Schuko or UK 13A outlets. Rated at either 32A or 16A input, the IPDU is fitted with fully shrouded switches to prevent accidental local switching and clip feet for side or end-mounting. The IDPU is tightly integrated with APW's Active RAK Controller, which provides the management functionality and network interface. The IPDU is only one of many intelligent devices that can be remotely monitored and controlled through the ARC: temperature, humidity, shock, door sensors, smoke detectors and PIR security devices can all be remotely monitored, while fan trays, access keypads and door bolts can all be remotely managed. The ARC turns a server housing from a passive enclosure to an intelligent housing, an integral part of the network. *** Ends: body copy 288 words *** Notes to Editors.
