Hemi anechoic chamber installed at KAC Release 31 October 2002 As part of its continuing investment into the development of its audible-visual product capability, KAC, the leading call point and ancillary device manufacturer, has installed a 4m x 3m x 3m hemi anechoic chamber at its Redditch production facility. Manufactured by IAC Acoustic Structures Division, the chamber enables KAC to undertake in-house testing to relevant standards by measuring the output level of a sounder throughout the circumference of a 1m radius sphere around the device. The chamber is fully calibrated against a standard reference source to ISO 3745 with a flat response over the frequency range 300Hz to 10kHz; it also performs well at frequencies below 300Hz. It is used both as a research and production tool; product enhancements can be tested without the delays associated with using an external test house, production batches are sample tested to reduce the output level spread and comparative tests between devices can be made. KAC is committed to a programme of continuous product improvement for its sounder products. Since the installation of the chamber, the existing range has benefited from several minor developments that reduce the tolerance on output frequency and increase the output level. A major redesign is in hand; new, improved products and an expansion of the KAC AV range can be expected beginning early in 2003. *** Ends: body copy 216 words *** Notes to Editors.
