An integrated conference and exhibition centre with a main auditorium seating more than 2000 people, 16500 sq. m. of exhibition space and numerous ancillary rooms, HIC offers state-of-the-art video, audio-visual and special effect systems to help make the event a memorable occasion. The unnoticed but critical fire safety systems have also recently been upgraded to use the latest technology, providing the best fire protection for visitors and staff. Shipley-based Rosse Systems Limited, one of NOTIFIER Fire Systems' leading Engineering Systems Distributors, was recently awarded the contract to replace the existing outdated conventional fire system. As ever, budgetary constraints meant that while safety was paramount, value-for money was also an important criterion. To reduce cost and disruption, Rosse was able to install three networked ID3000 intelligent control panels with four repeaters utilising the existing fire system's wiring. The system wiring, previously arranged as 80 conventional fire zones, was reconfigured to make four intelligent loops from each panel; the panels themselves were networked using ID2net, a low overhead protocol that imposes a minimal overhead on the panel's processing capability. Nearly all the new detectors installed were Optiplex multi-sensor photo-thermal devices, giving the HIC optimal detection from the combined smoke and heat elements working together as a single detector. The sensitivity of the system can to be tailored to the occupation levels and activities in the buildings on a zone-by-zone basis. The smoke element of the Optiplex can be disabled by means of a simple keyswitch operation to give heat only protection, ensuring that, for example, artificial smoke generated as part of a new product presentation does not set the system into alarm at the most critical point of the show! *** Ends: body copy 309 words *** Notes to Editors.
