Fire meets its match at Wimbledon

Powerpoint Electronics, one of NOTIFIER Fire Systems' leading Engineered Systems Distributors, ESDs, has won the prestigious contract to supply, install and commission a new intelligent fire system at the headquarters of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, better known to millions of tennis fans around the world as "Wimbledon".  The new fire system consists of 10 ID3000 control panels that provide 42 loops divided into 284 fire zones with some 3000 addressable smoke and thermal detectors and modules.  The individual control panels are networked together over 2.5km of fibre optic cable using NOTIFIER's ultra high speed Intelligent Digital Delivery Network, ID2net, which transmits an alarm across the network in less than half a second.  Fibre media for the network is an essential because of the very high local levels of EMC generated by the Fire, Police, Ambulance and Broadcast services.

The fire system drives five separate Uninet graphic stations located at key control points around the ground; it also interfaces with an existing staff paging system so that any potential incidents can be investigated by fire-trained staff as quickly as possible before general alarm signals are broadcast.  The graphics repeaters are currently running on the site's normal network; they will migrate to the fire system's fibre network during the next phase of the project.

The system is currently being extended to cover the new Turnstile building and Museum.  When the Centre Court is fitted with its retractable roof, the system will be further extended to protect the spectators, players and officials when the roof is closed.
