APW has grown rapidly through both acquisition and investment to become the leader in its chosen field. Tightly focussed on the telecoms, datacoms and electronics markets, APW is committed to technology, manufacturing and service leadership. In China, development has started on a new 250,000 square feet facility for the manufacture of power supplies, enclosures and backplanes in Shanghai, while in Brazil, a 200,000 square feet manufacturing plant has been acquired from IMB, the leading supplier to the South American telecom and financial markets. In the USA, APW has just announced the acquisition of Mayville Metal Products, giving a further 875,000 square feet of outdoor enclosure manufacturing and systems integration capability. In the UK, more than $100m has been committed to three operations in the Southampton area. At Hedge End, the world-wide centre of excellence for backplane design and manufacture, a $25m investment will make the plant one of the top seven facilities in the world. At Chandlers Ford, a £20m factory extension is dedicated to the manufacture of third generation wireless base stations, while at APW New Forest, a further £60m is being invested to increase manufacturing capability for outdoor shelters. Just in the Southampton area alone, more than 500 full time jobs have been created, making APW the largest high technology company in the area. New Product Introduction Centres in the US and the UK provide design, prototypes and testing services in partnership relationships with customers. Manufacturing, supply chain management and assembly, testing and distribution are an integral part of the APW offering. For data centre owners, the critical infrastructure element supporting the Internet explosion, APW Internet Business Solutions goes even further, giving its customers turnkey capability in project management, facility planning and layout and logistic and installation services.
