Reduced width CompactPCI backplanes Released 19 July 2002 APW has further extended its range of CompactPCI backplanes with the introduction of 3U and 6U "Reduced Width" models, available in 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 slot variants. The new versions are primarily intended for rack-mount applications where 1U, 2U and 3U horizontal subracks can house 2 slot, 4 slot and 6 slot backplanes respectively. With 19" rack space at a premium, particularly in telecoms and datacoms applications, increased packaging density will give considerable overall cost savings. The backplanes themselves are designed to PICMG 2.0 Rev.3.0 and are compliant to Revision 2 of the PICMG 2.1 Hot Swap specification. Both 32 Bit or 64 Bit versions are available, they have right hand system slot positions and support both 33MHz and 66MHz operation. The 4, 5 & 6 slot backplanes have the option of CT/H.110 routing to PICMG 2.5 Revision 1.0, giving the additional frame ground terminals and increased signal / power plane clearances required to operate with 48VDC telecom voltages. The I/O signalling environment is selectable between 3.3V and 5V, power on is via 6.35mm Fastons and M4 Power Bugs and a 10-way service header is provided for power supply monitoring and other system management functions. *** Ends: body copy 197 words *** Notes to Editors.
