KVM EXTENDS IMserv CAPABILITIES IN SERVER FARMS

The IMserv cabinet from APW Electronics is optimised for housing servers, UPS and associated active electronics in networking applications.  The new IMserv KVM (Keyboard, Video and Mouse) switch, manufactured by one of the world's leading companies in this technology, APEX, enables a single monitor, keyboard and mouse to be used for local control of up to 256 individual servers in a server farm.
The KVM itself is a 19" unit, only 1U high, which can be rack or shelf mounted; by doing away with multiple monitors and keyboards it saves valuable space in the rack, reduces power consumption and cooling requirements.  It is available in 4, 8 and 16 way versions, stackable to give up to 256 ports if required; the patented OSCAR (On-Screen Configuration and Activity) user interface provides an easy configuration and set-up capability.  The unit supports scanning, naming, security and broadcast functions across all connected devices.
To reduce cabling complexity within the server rack, special interconnect with the three leads bundled into one outer are available in a variety of lengths.  Two versions of the unit are available, enabling either one or two users to access and configure the equipment.  The device is Out of Band, so it is independent of any specific operating system, making it fully compatible with products from all major rack-mounted server manufacturers.
