Using the latest Texas TSB12LV26 IEEE1394 OHCI compliant Host controller and the TSB41AB3 three port transceiver/arbiter, the module is fully compliant with IEEE1394a-2000. Uniquely, LED indicators for cable connected, transmit and receive and throughput speed are mounted on the reverse of the module, greatly simplifying the task of system integration and debugging. The module supplies cable power from an on-board converter powered from the host processor's +12v line sufficient to power up the remote PHYs on powered-off modules. It enables a Hot Swap "Plug and Play" capability for the attached peripherals, allowing, for instance, a faulty hard drive to be swapped out without powering down the host system. Each front panel mounted independent port supports transfer speeds of 100, 200 or 400Mbits/s, giving a high speed interface from industrial workstations or servers to mass storage devices, video equipment, scanners and other equipment where high speed data throughput is a key requirement. Conforming to the latest revisions of all relevant PCI specifications, the PMC-FW2 will be the ideal interface for Firewire-compliant real-world I/O, currently under development by several leading vendors. Full software support is provided under Window 98 SE and 2000. *** Ends: 204 words *** Notes to Editors.
