Intrinsically Safe LED beacons overcome low light output problems in Hazardous Areas Released 23 August 2002 Traditional Xenon tube beacons cannot perform to their full potential in Intrinsically Safe Hazardous Areas; the input energy that is allowed to pass through the Zener barrier or galvanic isolator is limited and consequently the performance of the Xenon tube is severely compromised, significantly reducing its light output. To overcome this limitation, the new L101L-IS Intrinsically Safe flashing beacon from European Safety Systems uses an array of ultra bright LEDs to produce a bright flashing warning signal in Hazardous Areas, giving a far more effective visual warning than the Xenon tube beacon alternatives. Suitable for use in Zone 0, 1 and 2 environments and approved to EEx ia IIC T4, the L101-IS operates from 10 – 28VDC and is available with Amber, Red or Green LEDs; as a stand-alone unit it operates a 2Hz, giving two double flashes per second. The unit can also be combined with E2S’s IS A105N-IS 105dB(A) sounder producing the first intrinsically safe sounder/ beacon combination, powered through the same Zener barrier or galvanic isolator and mounted together or separately. An optional “alarm accepted” facility enables the sounder to be silenced for between one and thirty minutes. When used with a sounder, the L101-IS flashes at 1Hz when on; when the sounder is silenced, the flash rate is 2Hz.
