An additional form of passive protection has been developed by IGT Industries, who have introduced high quality textured polyester film panels with antimicrobial protection that is incorporated into the film during the manufacturing process. Suitable for use as door finger plates, on work surfaces, tables, lockers, walls or any surface where infection may be present or spread, the material is supplied ready-configured to meet the requirements of specific locations. It is a self-adhesive film, reverse screen printed with background colours and legends to choice, pre-cut to the sizes needed. There is no evidence of resistant strain development and the material will not irritate the skin and is non-sensitising. It works by disrupting the bacterial cell wall, affecting the ability of the bacteria to reproduce, thereby inhibiting growth or killing the contamination. The material has been independently tested to AATCC Test Method 100 and is confirmed as being effective against a range of bacteria, fungi and moulds: MRSA, E.coli 0157, Listeria monocytogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella spp, Bacillus cereus, Strepococcus faecalis, Klebsiella spp, Aspergillus niger, Penicillium purpurogenum, Phoma violacea and Sacch. Cerevisiae. The panels can be embossed without degrading their antimicrobial performance. The antimicrobial agent is uniformly distributed throughout the base material, so abrasion caused by routine cleaning and scratching through accidental damage does not diminish the material's effectiveness. *** Ends: body copy 240 words *** Notes to Editors.
